Artist of the Month
Cathy Stewart is a retired classroom teacher, and holds a Master’s Degree in Education with an Art Minor. She has taught art to children in grades Kindergarten through 8th as well as some private and semi-private classes for children. Cathy has always enjoyed doing various kinds of art and crafts throughout her life and has recently been exploring a wide variety of mixed media techniques on canvas and fabric. She loves to create one of a kind floral wreaths and swags, and works on commissioned art as well.
Another passion of Cathy's is painting furniture, using acrylics on repurposed chairs and tables and create florals, landscapes, and child themed pieces.
Cathy loves to explore estate sales, thrift shops, flea markets, and garage sales, for small trinkets and treasures she can incorporate in her art.
Cathy has stated "I love color! Bright, bold, beautiful colors draw me in and awaken my senses! I also make felt and fabric ornaments and pins, and the inspiration for these come from what I see and experience all around me. Some of my pieces are seasonal and some not. All are whimsical, fun, and done with felt, fabric, thread, glue, embroidery stitches, and a variety of embellishments such as: lace, buttons, beads, ribbon, and sometimes paint. I thank God for the gift of creativity and the ability to share it."
